A little about me…
I’m a Certified Health Coach, living in the Kansas City area. I also hold a B.S. in Photography/Business Management from Northern Arizona University, as well as MEPI Montessori certification for the primary classroom. Somewhere in between these educational endeavors, I became a mom to two girls. They have taught me the most about the importance of paying attention to the little things in life!
I’m passionate about continuing my education and motivating others so I can affect the ways in which we bring more awareness to the mind-body connection. Through holistic nutrition and small step strategies, I work with clients to help them create their unique food and lifestyle ‘recipe’ for optimum health and sustainable change. I specialize in Gluten Free living and food sensitivities. I’m also an advocate for change in school food nutrition and children’s health.
A little more…
Every Little Bite is here as the result of my own health journey, before and after I became a mom…
After our first daughter, Chloe, was born in 2001, her health became a great concern. During the first two years of her life, my husband and I found ourselves on our way through a myriad of doctors and practitioners to explain what was going on in her body. When we finally got the diagnosis of Celiac Disease, it was a relief in many ways to know that food was going to be her primary healing tool… she needed to be on a gluten free diet. Realizing that there is a genetic component involved with celiac, I was also tested and diagnosed in 2003. The day of diagnosis, we cleared the kitchen of all things gluten and didn’t look back. Little did I realize that this new lifestyle would be so healing for me as well. I had spent years trying to find a way from depression, anxiety, fatigue, digestive issues and other symptoms. This was a new beginning in my search for wellness through holistic nutrition, awareness, and education.
In 2005, our second daughter, Maggie, was born. Because I had been gluten free for 2 years, the pregnancy and birth were, not surprisingly, much less an ordeal. She was healthy and didn’t appear to have ‘typical’ celiac symptoms (although she had tested positive for one genetic marker). After making our way through the gluten free lifestyle with Chloe, we thought we would take an easier road and let Maggie have gluten. Over time, a number of other ‘atypical’ symptoms started to appear. Again we did lots of testing and ultimately found dairy allergies and later, gluten sensitivity. After removing gluten from her diet, the prevailing symptoms like dry skin on her eyelids and dark circles under her eyes, disappeared. She had more energy, improved sleep, and her mood returned to happy.
In 2008, we uncovered something unexpected. Chloe and I were diagnosed with Lyme Disease. This was a complete shock and sent me further into research. At this point I knew I had to be the ultimate person paying acute attention to my body and what it was telling me… and be a messenger for our daughters. When faced with the thought of the domino effect that could continue as a result of a chronic condition like this I became focused on pursuing all avenues to educate myself on the power of healing foods and the mind/body connection.
I’ve chosen a holistic approach to connect the dots from dis-ease to reclaiming my health, and guiding our girls. I believe striving for wholeness creates happier, healthier lives and through that, we can achieve a balance that resonates far beyond our physical selves to create planetary healing.
I want our girls to thrive and grow healthy, happy and whole. I continue to learn everything I can about optimum immune health. I geek out on biomedical research and love talking nutrition. Most importantly, I now see it as an opportunity to connect and share. To serve others from a place of compassion, without judgement. It’s allowed me to appreciate every little bite of life even more!
